Please note that if you choose to use insurance you are responsible for calling your insurance company and verifying benefits and eligibility. Bamboo Nutrition will not do this for you. Insurance companies may not always cover nutrition visits so it is important that you obtain all the details from the questions below.
If insurance denies your claim, or no longer provides reimbursement for services, it is the client’s responsibility to pay for the services rendered.
Checking Your Insurance Benefits
Call the member services number on the back of your card and ask:
Does my plan cover outpatient nutrition counseling (CPT codes 97802 and 97803)?
Is there a limit on the number of allowed visits per year?
Is there a limit on the number of allowed units per session or per year?
Does my plan only cover preventative “medically necessary” visits, or does it also allow and cover services as a primary diagnosis (ICD-10 code Z71.3)? Does my plan cover eating disorder diagnoses (F50)?
Are telehealth sessions covered?
Are phone sessions covered?
Do I have a deductible to meet before nutrition counseling benefits can be used?
Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance for nutrition counseling? If yes, how much is it? (A registered dietitian is considered a specialist)
Do I need a physician referral? If yes, please obtain their NPI number and have them fax a referral to Bamboo Nutrition (573) 615-4443.
Is Isabelle Bouchard in network with my specific plan? (NPI number: 1811471477)
Record the representative’s name you spoke with and the reference number for the call (this information will be be necessary if you ever need to dispute a rejected claim).
You will be responsible for any visits which your insurance carrier denies payment.
Bamboo Nutrition offers nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy for individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating, or a negative relationship with food. Sessions vary between 30-60min. Workshops and groups are offered throughout the year. Bamboo Nutrition operates within the scope of practice of dietetics and nutrition and uses a flexible approach in the outpatient setting. Bamboo Nutrition does not discuss numbers including calories and weight, unless warranted, and practices health at every size (HAES). Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will require full payment of missed session. If the client is not a good fit for Bamboo Nutrition, we may refer you to another provider we believe to be a better fit in order to best serve you. Before an initial session, the client has the option to schedule a free fifteen-minute phone call to answer all questions openly. Bamboo Nutrition operates confidentially and meets the standard of care mandated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. Bamboo Nutrition holds all boundaries of respect, safety and professionalism and ensures prompt communication, within 24-48 business hours.
