Navigating gut health in children & adults

Ready to get back to feeling normal?

Maybe you can’t even remember what “normal” feels like. Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders can be tricky and they can happen so suddenly. One day you’re able to eat all the foods you love with no pain, bloat or discomfort and it feels as though overnight all of those fun foods are off-limits.

You might not even have thought about seeing a dietitian for your condition. Its typical now-a-days to read self help books, follow the new diet trends, cut out your favorite foods and basically self-diagnose and treat. By going down this path, you are likely causing more pain and distress to your gut and wasting your time and energy on this uphill battle.

How can we help?

GI disorders require a lot of critical thinking, trial and error and working with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists. Your gut is like a second brain— ever heard this expression? There is one nerve, the vagus nerve, that travels from your brain to your gut so when your gut is not feeling good, this disrupts mental clarity and vice versa. If you are a person living a stressful life or struggle with mood disorders, your gut is likely paying the price.

Your gut being unhappy can be a constant reminder of your stress, or perhaps even a trauma you’ve experienced. Your GI tract takes time and attention to heal and it is hard to do this on your own or solely by reading information on the internet.

At Bamboo Nutrition we do not believe in diets. We don’t want to restrict or limit any of your favorite foods, rather, we will help you to understand your body’s needs, enjoy all foods and know how to incorporate them into your meal plan. We want to be your teammate, your support and accountability. Working closely with one of our dietitian-specialists, you will have more knowledge and understanding of how your body works and what it needs to support a happy and healthy gut for years to come.

Pediatric GI Conditions

How do gastrointestinal Conditions show up in young patients?

Gastrointestinal distress can begin in infancy. There are so many different things that can impact a persons gut-function, including getting sick, needing surgery, experiencing food poisoning, allergies, and more.

If your child is experiencing constipation, diarrhea, inconsistent bowel habits, or complaining often or stomach pain, they could benefit from seeing a dietitian to discuss their intake and symptoms.

when to start working with a registered dietitian

Of course, if you’re very concerned we would recommend you start with a GI specialist who can suggest additional testing to determine the cause of the distress. With or without a diagnosis, a dietitian can support you in navigating symptoms, bowel habits, and improving gut health.

Food and fluids has a direct impact on your gut health. With a dietitian’s guidance, you can help your child overcome a lot of their GI discomfort.
